Three children's attractions in Atlanta give children the opportunity to play, explore the world around them, and participate in fun activities. The Center for Puppetry Arts offers a series of family productions, puppetry workshops, and a museum. The newest performance, The Adventures of Little Noodle
, is scheduled from March 8-April 1. Lost in a grocery store, Little Noodle learns to make healthy food choices as she tries to find her way home. Children may participate in a create-a-puppet workshop where they can make their own Little Noodle rod puppet. The upcoming spring performance will be Peter Pan, which will run from April 5-May 27. The museum features several exhibits. Jim Henson: A Man and his Frog features Henson and his famous Kermit the Frog puppet. Jim Henson: Puppeteer has items that are on long term loan from the Henson Family Collection. The new interactive exhibit, Puppets: The Power of Wonder, showcases different types of puppets from various time periods. More than 350 puppets are on display including puppets from China, Indonesia, and Africa. The Center for Puppetry Arts is located at 1404 Spring Street NW in midtown. Hours are Tuesday-Friday from 9am-3pm, Saturdays from 9am-5pm, and Sundays from 11am-5pm. Performance tickets (including the museum and puppet workshop) are $16.50, and advance reservations are recommended. Museum admission without the performance is $8.25.
LEGOLAND Discovery Center is a brand new Atlanta attraction. Located at Phipps Plaza in Buckhead, LEGOLAND has a dozen fun areas to entertain LEGO fans. Younger visitors will enjoy DUPLO Village and the LEGO Construction Site. Older kids will want to try the Kingdom Quest ride and Merlin's Apprentice. The entire family can enjoy the LEGO 4-D Cinema and the LEGO Racers. The LEGO Shop carries a huge variety of LEGO sets. Phipps Plaza is located at 3500 Peachtree Road NE. Geneva and Val D'Isere - Skiing and Sightseeing
It is probably doubtful if any skier eagerly anticipates their ski transfer - even including the picturesque one from Geneva to Val d'Isere.
Let's face it, even if you have had only a relatively short flight, the chances are you were probably up at some ungodly hour to get ready and then had extensive travelling to do to reach the airport at the other end. Then there would have been the almost inevitable flight delays and queues to get through security at your departure airport. All things being equal, there is a fair chance that before you even arrive in Geneva you are tired and jaded and probably not looking forward to the Geneva to Val d'Isere transfer.
Being realistic, unless you are lucky enough to have your own private jet there is probably not much you can do to avoid many of the above potential frustrations that go hand in hand with travel these days.
Yet there are two things to bear in mind: Geneva is a great city with lots of things to do so you might want to break your journey by having a night or two there exploring its attractions; and Val d'Isere is worth getting to!

The origins of the city go back to before the Roman period and the old town is a magnificent area to explore. Space does not permit a full description of all of the interesting sites and cultural attractions in this world famous international city but a trip on or around the lake is surely a must. Although the onward journey from Geneva to Val d'Isere is really no big deal, a day or two spent looking around the back streets of the city might just help you recharge your batteries ready for the slopes.

Barely three miles from the border with Italy, this ski resort is one of the most famous and beautiful in France. There are, of course, a wide variety of slopes and runs available for all levels of skier but experienced sportspeople regard the resort, on the whole, to be challenging. An interesting fact about this ski resort is that it is skiable in summer due to the local glacier. This, together with some use of snow cannons, means that it offers wintertime sports all year round.
The resort itself comprises a mixture of traditional alpine village type accommodation together with some more volume-oriented higher rise hotel type lodgings. A wide range of snow sports is provided to supplement the basic attractions of the ski slopes. Many skiers love this resort for its mixture of demanding slopes and French style. Certainly it is worth putting up with flights and the short Geneva to Val d'Isere transfer in order to get here!

Wet, Wet and Wetter
Finally the wet season arrived in Bangkok this week. It has been an unusual twelve months weather wise. The serious floods that affected huge swathes of the country at the end of last year were the worst in Thailand for a hundred years. As I write this it's late afternoon and the rain is absolutely hammering down. There is nothing unusual about that, but what is different this year is that instead of the rain lasting for about an hour then drying up, this season it just goes on and on. Some evenings it has started at 3 or 4 pm and has still been raining at midnight. Very un-Thai like.
When it rains in Asia it really does rain. Not for us the drizzly, grizzly, grey murky stuff of my home town Manchester, oh no! We get the full on Thor's hammer stuff. Thunder shaking the buildings and lightning lighting up the whole city. It is magnificent, Mother Nature at her awesome best. The roads flood in minutes to about a foot deep but amazingly after the rains eases it dries up in no time at all. I am constantly amazed at the drains of Bangkok having the ability to move huge amounts of water in minutes.
A few years ago I lived on Sukhumvit Soi 33 in the heart of the City. In their wisdom the powers that be decided that the footpaths needed repairing. All well and good you may think, but that they chose to do this in the middle of the wet season caused havoc. Huge loads of sand and cement were dropped on the streets in the morning and in the afternoon when God brought the water, guess what happened? The cement leeched out of the bags and joined the sand and water, the resultant mix was washed into the drains where it promptly set, like concrete in fact! For a whole month every time the big rain came the Soi was flooded to a depth of about three feet. Now to most people this would be considered a major problem, but to Thai's it was merely a small inconvenience. The girls threw off their sandals and waded through the water to the seven eleven. Nothing as trivial as a flood will keep a Thai girl from her food.
None of these incidents even make it on to the local news bulletins never mind the International News. One gets the impression that if this happened in the heart of London, it would preoccupy the world's news agencies for days on end. It is not the Thai way to make a drama out of a crisis, they just accept it and get on with life as normal. Within a few weeks, the work crews managed to get the paving work done and all returned to normal. Of course the standard of workmanship was shocking and the footpaths were quickly back to the state they were in before the work commenced.
So the weather is definitely changing. Now I don't know whether or not this is global warming beginning to announced its arrival or just a blip. But there is no question about it, this year my trainers have needed drying out more than any other year. The scientists say it is happening and the skeptics stand like King Canute and ignore the floods. Last year as the floods gripped the whole of the country, hundreds died and millions lost their homes. I just hope it is not a sign of things to come.
